Cruises


Any written communication (publication, poster, thesis, dissertation ...) or oral (communication in congresses, seminars ...), including press releases, concerning the results of an oceanographic survey carried out on the vessels of the French Oceanographic Fleet must obligatorily mention the support of the French Oceanographic Fleet for the realization of the cruise as well as the DOI number assigned to the mission.
A list of the above communications should be sent to the Direction of the Oceanographic Fleet for the establishment of monitoring indicators and valorization of the TGIR French oceanographic fleet.

2025 PIRATA-FR34 Cruise

    The PIRATA-FR35 cruise took place on board the N/O Thalassa from February 26, 2025 to April 4, 2025 from Mindelo, Cabo Verde.

    3 T-FLEX systems have been successully deployed in the French Pirata area at 6S-10W, 10S-10W and 0N-23W, and 2 ATLAS at 0N-10W and 0N-3W.

2024 PIRATA-FR34 Cruise

    The PIRATA-FR34 cruise took place on board the N/O Thalassa from February 28, 2024 to April 4, 2024 from Mindelo, Cabo Verde.

    4 T-FLEX systems have been successully deployed in the French Pirata area at 6S-10W, 10S-10W, 20S-10W and 0N-23W, and 2 ATLAS at 0N-10W and 0N-3W.

2023 PIRATA-FR33 Cruise

    The PIRATA-FR33 cruise is currently taking place on board the N/O Thalassa from March 4, 2023 to April 9, 2023 from Mindelo, Cabo Verde.

    3 T-FLEX systems have been successully deployed in the French Pirata area, at 10W-10S and 10W-6S and 3 ATLAS at 0-3W, 20S-10W and 0-10W. Two CO2 NKE sensors was installed at 10W-0 and 10W-6S.

2022 PIRATA-FR32 Cruise

    The PIRATA-FR32 cruise is currently taking place on board the N/O Thalassa from February 22, 2022 to April 9, 2022 from Las Palmas, Spain.

    3 T-FLEX systems have been successully deployed in the French Pirata area, at 10W-10S and 10W-6S and 3 ATLAS at 0-3W, 20S-10W and 0-10W. Two CO2 NKE sensors was installed at 10W-0 and 10W-6S.

2021 PIRATA-FR31 Cruise

    PIRATA-FR31 cruise was conducted aboard the N/O Thalassa on February 22 - April 20 2021 from Brest to Brest (France).

    3 T-FLEX systems have been successully deployed in the French Pirata area, at 23W-0N, 10W-10S and 10W-6S and ATLAS at 0-3W, 20S-10W and 0-10W. Due to piracy restriction area, mooring 0-0 was swap at 3W. Two CO2 NKE sensors was installed at 10W-0 and 10W-6S.

2020 PIRATA-FR30 Cruise

    PIRATA-FR30 cruise was conducted aboard the N/O Thalassa on February 16 - March 30 2020 from Mindelo (Cabo Verde) to Brest (France).

    3 T-FLEX systems have been successully deployed in the French Pirata area, at 23W-0N, 10W-10S and 10W-6S. Following piracy at mooring 8E-6S, it was moved to 10W-20S with ATLAS. Two CO2 NKE sensors was installed at 10W-0 and 10W-6S.

2019 PIRATA-FR29 Cruise

    PIRATA-FR29 cruise was conducted aboard the N/O Thalassa on March 1 - April 4 2019 from Mindelo to Mindelo (Cabo Verde)

    4 T-FLEX systems have been successully deployed in the French Pirata area, at 23W-0N, 10W-10S and 10W-6S, 8E-6S with a CO2 NKE sensor.

2016 PIRATA-FR26 Cruise

    PIRATA-FR26 cruise was conducted aboard the N/O Thalassa on March 7 - April 12 from Mindelo to Mindelo (Cabo Verde)

    We have the real pleasure to inform you that the two first T-FLEX systems have been successully deployed in the French Pirata area, at 23W-0N (March, 12) and 10W-10S (March, 18).

    Along with the 1st T-FLEX deployed at 23W-12N by USA in 2015, these new systems open a new era for PIRATA, with more data in real-time and potentially more sensors

2000 PIRATA-FR7 Cruise (EQUALANT 2000)

    Replacing the N/O Antea, moored in Abidjan following engine damages, the N/O Thalassa has been used during the EQUALANT cruise and the replacement of one ATLAS mooring. The cruise was July 23 - August 21 from Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire) to Pointe Noire (Congo).

2000 PIRATA-FR6 Cruise

    Replacing the N/O Antea, moored in Abidjan following engine damages, the N/O Suroît has been used for this cruise conducted on March 8-19 2000 from Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire) to Port Gentil (Gabon).

1999 PIRATA-FR5 Cruise

    The first leg (ATLAS moorings) of the PIRATA-FR5 cruise, was conducted aboard the N/O Antea from 25th October to 4th November 1999, beginning and ending in Abidjan. Due to the cancellation of the PIRATA-FR4 cruise in July 1999 following unexplained damages on the ship engines, PIRATA-FR5 is following PIRATA-FR3 (January 1999). The main part of experiments initially planed during PIRATA-FR3 has been conducted during PIRATA-FR5 including the replacement of "Gavotte" mooring (10S-10W).

    The second leg (YOYO moorings) was conducted on November 8-15.

1999 PIRATA-FR3 Cruise

1998 PIRATA-FR2 Cruise

    The PIRATA-FR2 cruise was conducted aboard the N/O Antea from 30th October to 10 November 1998. The cruise began and ended in Abidjan. Notice that after a first leave on the 27th October, the ship had to go back to the dock due to a damage, and then the cruise has been delayed. The studied region extends from 10W to 0W between 10S and 5N.

1997 PIRATA-FR1 Cruise

    The PIRATA-FR1 cruise was the first French cruise in the PIRATA program aboard the N/O Antea. This is also the first cruise in the whole PIRATA program (the Brasilian cruise PIRATA-BR1 was planed in January 1998). PIRATA-FR1 was a 12 day cruise (from 5th to 16th September 1997), starting and ending in Abidjan.
