WOCE Sea Surface Salinity Data Assembly Center (WOCE SSS DAC)

The WOCE SSS DAC located at the Cenre ORSTOM de Brest is charged with assembling all the Sea Surface Salinity (SSS) observations collected since 1990 in the course of the WOCE programme (oceanographic cruises, observational networks). Information on the procedures for submitting SSS data to the DAC can be obtained from the server of the WOCE Data Information Sources or from the DAC.

Initially the data archived at the SSS DAC mainly came from observations made by merchant ships (VOS) of the network administered by ORSTOM, supplemented by data extracted from the 1998 NODC Atlas. The table below shows the total observations as well as division between oceans.

Because of the diversity of data sources and their amount of quality control the data files submitted to the DAC by the various PIs are treated separately.
